ABOUT US

A partnership of professional engineers in the Manchester Millyard, fittingly named Granite Engineering, LLC, provides complete cost-effective civil engineering design, land planning, and municipal services. Jeffrey Merritt, P.E. and Brenton Cole, P.E. combine for 30 years of land development experience across New England. Equipped with the latest industry software, Granite Engineering can efficiently convert your land development concepts to reality. With a client-driven focus, the company aims to provide guidance as early as the property selection phase to maximize potential land use options.

 

Past industry experience includes commercial, industrial, and residential site plans, subdivisions, roadway design, and the associated local, state, and federal permitting. Large projects personally designed and managed by the founders of Granite Engineering include several large condominium developments, apartment complexes, conventional and open space subdivisions with thousands of feet of roadway design, and large commercial and industrial buildings.

 

On a smaller scale, Jeff and Brent are experienced to provide septic designs, wetland impact permits, shoreland impact permits, construction inspections, and any other permit or design associated with State and local regulations. Company partners are well-known in the industry and have significant experience with municipal board presentations and public hearings.

 

Granite Engineering is devoted to the responsible development of the greater Manchester community, including service as the Vice Chair of the Manchester Conservation Commission. They are invested in the communities they provide service in and hope to continue building relationships throughout New England.

JEFFREY MERRITT, P.E.

CIVIL ENGINEER & PROJECT MANAGER

Since 2001

For 20 years, Mr. Merritt has worked in New Hampshire where he has primarily served as a Senior Project Manager for a local civil engineering firm designing and permitting a variety of land development projects throughout the State.  He graduated in 2001 from Clarkson University with a BS degree in Civil Engineering.  After college, he worked in Boston designing and permitting telecommunication facilities throughout the city. 

 

Jeff moved to New Hampshire with his wife in 2003 where he began to establish roots and learned the nuances of the State’s civil engineering process.  He began designing commercial, industrial and residential site plans, commercial and residential land subdivisions, residential open space subdivisions, municipal improvement projects, commercial and residential septic designs, and utility main extension projects.  He has extensive experience in land use permitting including local, state and federal permitting. 

 

Mr. Merritt has significant practice presenting in front of Planning Boards, Zoning Board of Adjustments, and Conservation Commission public hearings.   With 17 years of permitting knowledge in New Hampshire, he has the ability to comprehend and determine the applicability of local Zoning Ordinances, Site Plan Regulations, Subdivision Regulations, as well as state land use regulations and administrative rules. 

 

Here at Granite, he will continue to utilize his experience in project management to coordinate sub-consultants, schedule project timelines for fast and efficient approvals, continue to foster relationships with regulators, and maintain cost-effective project budgets.

BRENTON COLE, P.E.

CIVIL ENGINEER & PROJECT MANAGER

Since 2010

Mr. Cole has been working in the land development sector of New Hampshire for nearly a decade since graduating from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a BS degree in Civil Engineering.  He began as a project engineer for a small firm north of Concord where he worked directly with the owner to develop his skills in land design, CAD, and the permitting process.  Mr. Cole transferred to a larger firm outside of Manchester in 2014 where he earned his Professional Engineering license and became a project manager.  Mr. Cole has nearly 10 years of experience in engineering and managing residential, commercial, and industrial site plans, roadways, subdivisions, and other related projects. He has established roots in the city with his wife, Melissa, who is also a Professional Engineer in the state, and young daughter Lainey.   His passion is his family and career as he looks forward to advancing responsible development in the Granite State.

MANCHESTER CONSERVATION COMMISSION, VICE CHAIRMAN

Mr. Cole assists the Manchester Conservation Commission in its mission to preserve the City's natural resources for the benefit of its citizens and wildlife. The Commission's responsibilities include advising the NH DES on applications to disturb wetlands; cataloging, researching, and planning for the protection of natural resources, including watersheds, open spaces, wetlands, and endangered species; acquiring property interests in land to hold in conservation; promoting conservation activities; and advising other boards, such as the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment, on environmental impacts of development.
